Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists (KNCSB)

Helping Churches Make Disciples of All People

‘Buckets of Hope’ in KS-NE sees generous response

Pearl Street Baptist Church in Paola, Kan., was buzzing with excitement on a recent Sunday morning as people of all ages joined together to stuff Buckets of Hope for Haiti. Personnel at Miami Lumber Inc., the local lumberyard, were a great support as they located a supplier for the plain, white buckets. They sold the buckets to the church at a substantial discount and let them return the unused buckets.

Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptists opened their hearts and wallets to contribute more than 850 buckets to Buckets of Hope for Haiti.

Larry Thomas, KNCSB director of disaster relief, gave this report:

“Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptists purchased, packed and prayed over 855 Buckets of Hope valued at $38,500.

“Disaster-relief volunteers and associational missionaries drove 5,552 miles to gather and deliver the Buckets to a central-processing warehouse where other volunteers unloaded, stacked, shrink-wrapped and reloaded the Buckets for onward shipment to Haiti.”

“Garvey Public Storage of Wichita, Kan., donated warehouse space, material-handling equipment and hours of manpower to assist us in processing and loading the Buckets for shipment to Shreveport, La.

“A Wichita business donated wooden pallets for shipping. J.B. Hunt Trucking of Arkansas transported the Buckets to Louisiana for reloading in containers for onward shipping to Baptist churches in Haiti.”

Thomas commended Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptists for working together to become the “heart and hands of Jesus” in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.

“Continue to pray for the people of Haiti. If you are led, please contact me about opportunities to go and minister in Haiti.” Contact Thomas at
