Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists (KNCSB)

Helping Churches Make Disciples of All People

Building progresses in Sublette, Kan.

Volunteer Christian Builders place the main support beam for the balcony in the new addition at Sublette Southern Baptist Church, Sublette, Kan. This came after the group of mostly retirees carried the huge beam inside by hand.

God is doing an amazing work in Sublette, Kan., where construction is progressing on the 11,500-square-foot addition to Sublette Southern Baptist Church. Plans call for holding the first service in the new facility on Sunday, July 4.

The project has seen an outpouring of cooperation from the local community, Western Kansas Baptist Association and outside volunteer groups.

A local contractor and his crew constructed the building’s shell. It includes such energy-saving features as spray-foam insulation and radiant floor heating. The new sanctuary, which includes a balcony, will seat 400 people.

Volunteer Christian Builders, based in Texas, began the interior framing the day after Easter. The next day Kansas-Nebraska Baptist Builders began the electrical wiring. This is the first project for the Kansas-Nebraska group, which grew out of disaster-relief rebuilding teams that served in New Orleans, Greensburg, Kan., and other places.
