A major effort is now underway at Webster Conference Center to finish part of the new multipurpose building in time for the summer camping season.
Plans call for finishing the front part of the building. The first floor consists of a commons area, a lobby and restrooms.
The 250-seat chapel is located on the second floor along with restrooms and a meeting room.
In addition, outside work is needed, including sidewalks and retaining walls.
The WCC board of directors received this construction update during their recent meeting.
Board members rejoiced when they learned the $100,000 matching grant had been reached. A check for nearly $9,100 from the sale of corn put the goal over the top, said Leo Pauls. He is the part-time fund-raising consultant for WCC. Pauls is a retired professor at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kan.
“These are exciting times for this conference center,” Pauls said, calling it a “tremendous mission field.”
However, more money and volunteers are needed to finish the new multipurpose building.
Donations may be sent to WCC, 5410 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606-2331.
