Saskatchewan church needs outreach volunteers

A church is north-central Saskatchewan needs at least 24 volunteers to serve at the local exhibition (fair) July 30-Aug. 4.

Scarborough Baptist Church in Prince Albert, Sask., is planning outreach efforts for the approximately 400,000 visitors expected to attend the Prince Albert Exhibition. The event will include a rodeo, horse- and cattle shows, chuckwagon races, home- and garden-related exhibits and a First Nations powwow. (First Nations people in Canada are the equivalent of Native American Indians in the United States.)

Gerry Wortman, pastor of Scarborough Baptist Church, came to KNCSB to speak at Missions Challege ‘07. The event was cancelled because of a winter storm in the region. However, Wortman took time to tell about volunteer needs in Saskatchewan.

KNCSB has a partnership with the Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists that focuses on the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Outreach activities at the Prince Albert Exhibition will include passing out bottles of water and New Testaments. Volunteers also are needed to park vehicles in three four-hour shifts. This is a hot, dusty, but much-needed, ministry because of the large crowd expected to attend, Wortman said.

In addition, volunteers will perform “helping hands” activities, such as assisting families with children and the physically challenged.

For more information on how to get involved, send e-mail to Wortman at . The church’s phone number is 306.764.2244.

The Prince Albert church has partnerships with First Baptist Church, Valentine, Neb., and First Southern Baptist Church, Junction City, Kan.
