Seven people accepted Christ during outreach efforts in New Orleans conducted by KNCSB Rebuilding Team #7.
The team of 51 people served Oct. 21-28 in the hurricane-ravaged city.
“The outreach team went door to door in the community visiting people still suffering from the effects of the hurricane,” said Elijah “Touch” Touchton, team leader. “The team made 1,105 contacts, some by leaving messages of hope on their doors and/or listening as people poured out their experiences in those hours when the flood waters came so quickly.”
In addition, the outreach team distributed 175 gift bags, along with Bibles in English and in Spanish. “God had prepared the hearts of seven persons who received Jesus into their lives.”
Six teams of volunteers worked on replacing wiring in homes. “Seven homes were completely re-wired, while several others were approximately 50 percent completed,” Touchton said.
Another team completed the sheet rocking in one home. The Kansas-Nebraska teams worked with volunteers from Arkansas and Missouri.
“If your schedule does not allow a week to travel to New Orleans, you can still be a part of helping restore lives by purchasing a new toy to be given to the children through Gentilly Baptist Church,” Touchton said. “These families have lost everything. The smallest gift will bring joy to a child.”
KNCSB New Orleans Team #9 will leave for New Orleans on Saturday, Dec. 2, and will deliver the toys.
Gentilly Baptist Church on North Franklin Avenue houses KNCSB volunteers serving in New Orleans. Elysian Fields Baptist Church now meets with the Gentilly congregation. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Elysian Fields building.
