Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists (KNCSB)

Helping Churches Make Disciples of All People

Students to descend on New Orleans in March

Volunteers from KNCSB and Canada arrive at a single shotgun home in New Orleans for a wiring job. The Canadian Baptist Builders worked with KNCSB’s February team in New Orleans. This home, owned by an elderly widow, is located about a half mile north of Gentilly Baptist Church.

Eighteen months have passed since Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast. Although some areas of the stricken region are recovering, the process is still slow and painful.

In the past year KNCSB has sent 11 teams to New Orleans to help with rebuilding there. KNCSB is working with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, expanding the relationship that was in place before the hurricane struck. The most recent trip was Feb. 3-10 when KNCSB worked with the Canadian Baptist Builders and their U.S. partners who work in Canada during the warmer months.

Gentilly Baptist Church, about a mile northwest of New Orleans Seminary, is headquarters for the Arkansas-KNCSB rebuilding effort.

Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptists are asked to pray for the Arkansas leadership at Gentilly Church during the entire month of March. More than 1,000 volunteers, mostly students, will be staying there as they serve in New Orleans during spring break. They will be coming from as far away as New England. Please pray for the logistics of housing and feeding the volunteers as well as setting up and carrying out their work projects.

The next KNCSB team will be serving March 17-24 in New Orleans. If you are interested in going, please contact Elijah “Touch” Touchton at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Touchton is an electrical contractor from Pittsburg, Kan., and is leading KNCSB’s rebuilding efforts in New Orleans.

KNCSB’s funds to send teams to New Orleans are dwindling. Gifts to fund this vital ministry are now needed and will be much appreciated. Please make out checks to KNCSB, designate them for “Hurricane Recovery,” and mail them to 5410 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606-2331.
