Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists (KNCSB)

Helping Churches Make Disciples of All People

Super Summer records ‘very strong’ year

At the end of the Super Summer B.L.A.S.T. tournament on Thursday, Aug. 5, Jamie Tickel encouraged campers to walk with Christ in their life journey. Tickel was camp pastor for Weeks 5-6. He grew up in Southeast Kansas and is now pastor of First Baptist Church, Joplin, Mo.

The 35th year of the KNCSB Super Summer youth camp is now history. Although no records were set during the six weeks of camp, it was still a “very strong summer in all categories,” said Terry McIlvain, KNCSB director of youth ministries. Here is a look at Super Summer 2010 statistics:

  • Total campers: 2,656
  •
  • Professions of faith: 109
  •
  • Assurance of salvation: 32
  •
  • Candidates for baptism: 12
  •
  • Rededications: 143
  •
  • Commitments to vocational Christian service: 27
  •
  • Total offering: $12,563

The offering was divided 50 percent between KNCSB disaster relief and for new chairs in remodeling the main chapel at Webster Conference Center.

Campers at Super Summer 2010 looked at the life of Moses as they examined “Journey,” the camp theme.

Chad Poe, from Chattanooga, Tenn., was camp pastor for Weeks 1-2.

“God is calling you right now,” he told campers. “The perfect time to do things—it never comes. God’s call is immediate. Will you embrace that calling of God for your life?”

Super Summer campers are now back in school. Please pray for them to live the commitments they made at camp.
