Helping Churches Make Disciples of All People

Volunteer teams give big boost to WCC project

Work on the small chapel on the second floor of the new multipurpose building at Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan., saw great progress during the week of June 11-15. A team from White River Baptist Association in Arkansas installed drywall in the chapel and in other parts of the building. The team worked at Covenant Baptist Church, Topeka, Kan., in June 2005. Several members of Covenant joined the Arkansas team in working at WCC. In addition, an electrical team, led by Elijah “Touch” Touchton of Pittsburg, Kan., spent the week working in the new building.

Two volunteer teams descended on Webster Conference Center on Monday, June 11, and made progress on the new multipurpose building “leap ahead.”

At the end of the week, Bill Cooke, WCC director of operations, was all smiles as he recalled the week’s accomplishments. With the help of individuals and small groups, construction on the new building has been progressing steadily. However, the two teams helped the project “leap ahead,” Cooke said.

The team of nearly 30 people from White River Baptist Association in Arkansas spent the week hanging sheetrock as well as doing some finish work. At the end of the week, they had installed about 40 percent of the sheetrock in the new building.

Elijah “Touch” Touchton of Pittsburg, Kan., led a team of 12-15 electrical volunteers.

This was the Arkansas team’s third mission trip to Kansas. In 2005, the group worked at Covenant Baptist Church, Topeka, Kan. Several members of Covenant joined the Arkansas team in working at WCC. The Arkansas team served at Riverside Baptist Church, Independence, Kan., in 2006.

Most of the people on the electrical team have made numerous trips to New Orleans with KNCSB rebuilding teams.

More volunteers are needed at WCC. Meals will be provided along with lodging, if space is available during camping season. For more information, send e-mail to Cooke at Or call 785.827.6565 or 877.WCC.RESV.
