Volunteers needed to share Christ in Peru

Former Kansas pastor Scott Mayse led a mission team to Jamaica in the fall of 2010. He is now recruiting volunteers for a mission trip to Lima, Peru, in July 2011.

The assignment given to me on this mission trip to Chile was a very small town. I arrived on Saturday and now it was Thursday. We had just come from visiting a middle school and walked across the street to a candy store to purchase some water. I nodded to my interpreter to ask the lady behind the counter if we could share with her something very important for her life. She said “Yes,” closing her store and inviting us into her home.

We entered into the next room which was her total living space. It included her living room, kitchen and bedroom. As we sat around a small table, I began to share with her why I was in her small town. Then I shared my testimony and went through the questions about her relationship with God.

When we came to the point where I asked her if she would like to accept Jesus into her life, she said: “Today I closed my store, the only form of income that I have, to allow you to share this with me. I had heard that you were in town and I have been waiting for you to come and share with me how to become a Christian. Yes, I will pray the prayer to ask Him into my heart and life.”

God had already prepared her heart; she just needed someone to share with her how to accept Him into her life. God has people prepared for us called divine appointments, but He needs us to share with them. We are His feet and mouth piece while upon this earth.

In another situation, several of us were standing outside a corner drug store enjoying a bottle of water, when a young man pulled up to the curb on a motorcycle delivering prescriptions. After he handed the clerk the package, I handed him a gospel tract and ask him if he would read it.

After looking through the pages, he said this was the third tract he had received that day. Then he said maybe God was trying to tell him something. I asked him if he had time for us to talk about what was in the tract. He replied that he had to wait on the drug store owner and it would take a few minutes.

After sharing with him the way to know Jesus as his personal Savior, he prayed to accept Him into his life. He then said God had been trying to get his attention all day and now he had the time to listen. Before he left, he asked if we had more tracts that he could share with his friends.

One never knows when God will bring someone into our lives that He has been working with in drawing them to Himself.

Jesus said in Mark 16:15: “Go ye into all the world and preach (proclaim a witness toward the gospel) the gospel to every creature.” We are to be a witness of a fact that has happened in our lives in order for others to except Him into their lives.

Will you be a witness for Him wherever He may be calling you to go? Pray that you will be one of His laborers in the harvest. (Matthew 10:38). Pray that you will be alert to his leading you on mission. God has those in Lima, Peru, that are waiting to hear. Will you be the one to share with them? I am leading a mission team to Lima July 22-Aug. 1, 2011. If you are interested give me a call at 913.731.0539 or send e-mail to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
