Campers on Mission

After a busy year serving the Lord in 2016, several members of Kansas-Nebraska Campers on Mission are spending the winter serving at Texas Baptist Encampment at Palacios, Texas, on the Gulf Coast.

Although some COM members serve in warmer climates in the winter, the group spends the rest of the year hard at work in Kansas-Nebraska.

Every year the group contributes hundreds of hours of volunteer labor to Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan., and Weir Baptist Camp, 12 miles southwest of Pittsburg, Kan.

Kansas-Nebraska COM also played a major role in constructing the new building for New Life Baptist Church, Independence, Kan. After nearly 18 years of effort, New Life Baptist Church dedicated its new building on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016.

The skating rink in Independence was donated to the church in the late 1990s. More than 70 volunteers dismantled the building in February 1999. Many volunteers, including Kansas-Nebraska COM, worked hard to make the church’s new building a reality. COM members often worked at Weir Baptist Camp before or after serving at the Independence church.

The group has a busy year planned for 2017. Here is a list of events:

April 28-30—Spring Rally at Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan.

May 1-5—Work week at Webster Conference Center

May 15-26—Work project at Weir Baptist Camp, 12 miles southwest of Pittsburg, Kan.

June 20-22—Campers on Mission National Rally, Dothan, Ala.

Kansas-Nebraska Campers on Mission is also looking ahead to 2019. The group will host the 2019 Campers on Mission National Rally June 5-7 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.

Plans are already underway for the 2019 National Rally. This will be a huge effort for Kansas-Nebraska COM which is a small, but enthusiastic group. The group will need to enlist outside help and those needs will be announced as plans take shape.
