Bowies celebrate birth of triplet grandchildren

Southern Baptist missionaries Ken and Linda Bowie are on stateside assignment in Texas. They are taking care of medical matters and spending lots of time with their new triplet grandchildren.

They sent the following e-mail newsletter:

“We were awakened from our sleep the morning of Feb. 27 with the strongest tremor we have ever felt even having lived 32 years in South America where they are common. We found a small radio with batteries and heard that a strong earthquake hit southern Chile in the Concepción/Talca area. We appreciate all your prayers and notes of concern.
“In a whirlwind week we closed up our house in Ovalle, passed on ministry responsibilities, gathered medical records, drove to Santiago, settled up receipts with the new accounting system, went through the makeshift airport that was hit by the earthquake, and flew to DFW for stateside assignment on March 8.

“Ken needed evaluations and treatment to help his chronic back pain. He has had a number of exams done and the doctors determined that no surgery is needed at this time. He is trying new medicines and was scheduled to begin physical therapy May 10.

“God has given us a special blessing in that this time in the U.S. coincides with the birth of triplet grandbabies. Lori and Chad became parents on April 19 to Landon Josiah (3 lbs. 14 oz.), Liana Rose (3lb. 6 oz.), and Lindie Kate (3 lbs.) They are all in the progressive NICU at Cook’s Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth and doing great! They mainly need to grow so they will be able to come home.

“Meanwhile, our days are spent going back and forth between home, the hospital, and trying to work in some of our own doctors’ appointments for complete physicals. We have had some great times with Marci and Melissa’s families and our other three grandchildren: Felicity (4 yrs.), Nathanael (3) and Sadie (1.) We have lots of grandkids’ pictures on Facebook!

“We rejoice with folks at First Baptist, Ovalle, with the arrival of the new pastor, Alejandro Ordoñez, in May. Thanks for praying for this need. We continue to hear from friends in Ovalle and are especially glad to hear that folks continue traveling around the Limarí valley to teach Bible studies.

“Keep praying with us that our Lord will call more of his children to be involved in His mission of teaching His Word so that more lives will come to know Jesus as Savior. This is the prayer for the relief efforts being done in southern Chile as well.”
