Delbert Callaway, Weir Camp manager, to retire Dec. 31
Weir Baptist Camp in southeast Kansas has seen great accomplishments under the leadership of Camp Manager Delbert Callaway.
Callaway recently announced his plans to retire on Dec. 31 after 11 years of service. Volunteers are constructing a retirement house at the camp for Callaway and his wife, Diane. When they are no longer able to live in the home it will become the future camp manager’s house.
Volunteer Christian Builders, based in Texas, worked on erecting the shell of the house during their two-week work project in April. Kansas-Nebraska Campers on Mission will start interior work during their two-week work project at the camp in May.
Both groups will return to Weir Baptist Camp in the fall for two-week work projects. Kansas-Nebraska Campers on Mission will stage its work project in connection with the fall rally Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the camp.
Volunteers have served with Callaway to see these accomplishments so far during his tenure at the camp:
- Constructed two new cabins
- Constructed four new pavilions
- Constructed two additions to the barn
- Constructed a pole barn for trailer and machinery storage
- Built a fishing dock, a boating dock and a rifle range
