Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists (KNCSB)

Helping Churches Make Disciples of All People

Please pray for Chile

Southern Baptists are moving quickly to assess relief needs in the aftermath of an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile early Saturday morning, Feb. 27, Baptist Press reports.

Prayer is urgently needed for thousands of people in Chile whose lives have been upturned by a massive earthquake that struck in the early morning hours of Feb. 27, an International Mission Board strategist told BP.

“We want to ask Christians everywhere to lift up people in need after this huge disaster,” said Terry Lassiter, strategist for the American Peoples affinity group. “We thank the Lord that all of our missionaries are well, but there has been a very significant loss of life that is going to affect both our church community and the non-Christian community in Chile.”

Veteran Kansas missionaries Ken and Linda Bowie live in northern Chile.

“Ken and I are fine,” Linda Bowie reported via Facebook. “We felt the strong tremor and had a few things fall off of shelves. There was no electricity and little cell phone coverage till just recently.”

School was scheduled to start for the fall on Monday, March 1. “Lots of people are stranded trying to get back home. Keep praying for Chile, especially Santiago on south.”
