Kaw Valley, Blue Stem associations merge
In historic meetings on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, Kaw Valley Association of Southern Baptists and Blue Stem Baptist Association each met and voted to become Flint Hills Baptist Association. The meetings took place at First Southern Baptist Church, Topeka, Kan.
Following a fellowship lunch, everyone came together for the inaugural session of Flint Hills Baptist Association.
George Boujakly, KNCSB missions director, gave a blessing and urged the group “not to deny the differences in the local churches” and to “take courage” in the new adventure of combining the two associations into Flint Hills Baptist Association.
Officers for the new association are:
- Moderator: Joe Stiles, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, Lawrence, Kan.
- Vice moderator: Mike Quinn, pastor of First Baptist Church, Kan.
- Clerk: Jay Hale, pastor of First Baptist Church, Burlington, Kan.
- Treasurer: Wayne Ireland, member of Covenant Baptist Church, Topeka, Kan.
At-large officers of the administrative team include: Randy Smith, pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church, Silver Lake, Kan.; Sara Jones, director of adult education at First Southern Baptist Church, Topeka, Kan.; and Don Henrikson, pastor of Wanamaker Road Baptist Church, Topeka.
