Long-time Nebraska pastor Bob Payne dies
Long-time Nebraska pastor Bob Payne died Monday, Feb. 17. He was the retired pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, North Platte, Neb., where he served for 35 years.
Payne was “the longest-tenured Southern Baptist pastor in Western Nebraska,” said Peck Lindsay, retired KNCSB executive director. Lindsay is now the KNCSB consultant for town-and-country associations.
“Bob moved his family to North Platte believing that was where he should invest the rest of his life.”
Calvary Baptist Church’s attendance was running 15-20 when Payne and his family arrived in North Platte.
He was bivocational for the first few years. His first wife, Sue, also worked outside the home to help support their family.
Payne led Calvary Baptist to become self supporting, Lindsay continued. He also led the church to move to a blended worship style and to relocate to a larger facility.
His ministry was conducted while fighting an illness for many years.
The memorial service was held Thursday, Feb. 20, at Grace Community Bible Church in North Platte. Private family inurnment will be held later.
