Memorial at WCC to honor Doyle Smith
A memorial honoring long-time KNCSB leader Doyle Smith will be unveiled Monday afternoon, Oct. 9, at Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan., during the KNCSB annual meeting.
While managing the family farm as a teenager, Smith never had the opportunity to go to camp.
But after he settled into his long career as a pastor, Smith saw the importance of camp for young people to respond to God’s call to service. He and his wife, Carol, served at First Southern Baptist Church, Great Bend, Kan., from April 1972 until his death on Oct. 20, 2015.
Smith served as KNCSB president and vice president. He was the key influence in KNCSB acquiring Webster Conference Center in 1981. Smith served as president of the WCC board of directors for the first 10 years of the conference center’s history.
As Smith stated, “God’s vision for Webster Conference Center is to call and equip the next generation of spiritual leaders in Kansas and Nebraska.” This is a legacy that needs to be shared.
If you and your church would like to assist with this memorial to remember the vision and legacy which Doyle sought to demonstrate, make your checks payable to “KNCSB” and designate them for “Doyle Smith memorial.” Send them to: The Doyle Smith Memorial, KNCSB, 5410 SW 7th St. Topeka, KS 66606.
