Mission teams needed in Nebraska

Summer mission teams are critically needed in Nebraska.

Wayne and Ruth Ann Kittelson are KNCSB directors of volunteers for the state of Nebraska. By mid-spring each year, usually 20 mission teams have been assigned to Nebraska projects. This year only 12 teams have been recruited, Ruth Ann Kittelson reports.

Churches from such places as Arkansas and southern Missouri have served in Nebraska in previous years. But these churches are not responding as they have in the past. The rising cost of gasoline might be a factor.

“We have small churches depending on summer mission teams,” she said. “They will not be able to have Vacation Bible School and other ministries without help from mission teams.”

There is a long list of needs, but seven churches critically need summer teams. To learn more, call Ruth Ann Kittelson at (402) 330-0894 or send e-mail to

Churches that are critically in need of help this summer are:

New Beginnings Baptist Church in Omaha —This 2-year-old inner-city church needs a mission team to hold an outreach Vacation Bible School in a park as well as other projects to promote the church. The church building needs new siding installed.

Second Baptist Church in Omaha—This inner-city congregation needs a volunteer team to lead VBS, a sports clinic and an event such as a block party. A June date is preferred. The church building needs part of the west wall to be removed and replaced with drywall. The building’s upper level needs painted, and the lower level needs some electrical work.

Hillsdale Bible Fellowship, a-year-old congregation in the Karen West community of Omaha. A volunteer team is needed for VBS and other outreach activities, such as a park event, and servant evangelism in the community, such as clean up and mowing yards.

North Park Baptist Church, Columbus, Neb.—This church needs a volunteer team to stage Backyard Bible Clubs, youth events and a variety of outreach activities, such as a block party, and servant evangelism in the community.

Hastings Baptist Fellowship, Hastings, Neb.—A team is needed for outreach events in this key community in south-central Nebraska.

Palmer Bible Church, Palmer, Neb.—The small church in a town of 400 near Grand Island needs a team to lead VBS and community outreach. Construction needs at the church building include remodeling the entry area.

Calvary Baptist Church, Sidney, Neb. (headquarters of Cabela’s)—This church needs a team to lead a Vacation Bible School in the morning and sports camps (soccer and baseball) in the afternoon. The team also could stage an outreach event such as a block party.
