Pastor’s wife Onita Porter dies
Onita Porter, long-time pastor’s wife in southwest Nebraska, died Thursday, Aug. 24.
She met her husband, Leo, in Lincoln, Neb., when he was stationed there with the newly formed U.S. Air Force.
After Leo retired from the Air Force, they farmed for a while north of Palisade., Neb., until Leo followed the Lord’s calling him into full time ministry.
The Porters served in pioneer areas of the Southern Baptist Convention including Wray, Colo., Elk City, Idaho, and Panguitch, Utah. They returned home to southwest Nebraska in 1995. They started Frenchman Valley Baptist Church in Wauneta, Neb., in 1996. Leo pastored the church until his death on Aug. 14, 2016.
Onita ran Miss Nita’s Daycare in their home for many years.
The funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 2, at Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, Neb. Doug Lee, church planter in Western Nebraska, was the officiating minister. Burial was in Palisade Cemetery, Palisade, Neb.
