SE Kansas men’s retreat combines learning with service
By June Newman
The Southeast Kansas Baptist Association Men’s Conference on Saturday, Feb. 18, combined fellowship and spiritual teaching with community service.
More than 75 men attended the breakfast and conference held at First Baptist Church, Independence, Kan.
Jared C. Wilson was the keynote speaker. He is Director of Content Strategy for Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Mo., and managing editor of “For the Church.”
The conference theme was “Men of Holiness” using Hebrews 12:14 as it commands men to strive for holiness. In this way, our men can then be enabled to strengthen our churches through their lives and leadership.
After the conference a dozen guys from First Baptist Church, Independence; Emmanuel and First Southern Baptist churches in Coffeyville; and CrossPoint, Caney, gathered at the Midwest Pregnancy Care Center in Independence. The men assisted the ministry by tearing out a carport that had become a hazard. They started about 12:30 p.m. and finished throwing the last of the debris in a very full dumpster around 3:30 p.m.
This was a great service project for the Pregnancy Center. Not only were the men blessed by the conference, they were a blessing to the ministry.
