Sharon had its beginning in August 1951 when God gave five couples the burden for a church in southeast Wichita.

The group met for prayer every Tuesday night for 14 weeks and also did extensive visiting in the area.

Sharon Baptist Church organized as a mission on Nov. 10, 1951, in a home. On Dec. 23, 1951, the group voted to seek affiliation with the Kansas Convention of Southern Baptists.

Through the years the church has been blessed by the lives and talents of many people who have been stationed at McConnell Air Force Base.

Sharon has established numerous missions over the years. The first was Pleasantview Baptist Church in Derby which began as a home fellowship in July 1954. It organized as a church on May 29, 1955.
