“This summer during June we are looking to continue serving the people of New Orleans, this time by helping to paint and perform minor repairs to a new high school which will begin classes this August.

“KIPP Renaissance High School is a transformational charter school that will be holding classes on the third floor of Frederick Douglas High School in the Upper 9th Ward of New Orleans. This high school is located approximately 8 blocks south of Musician’s Village which is where many of you have assisted us in our partnership with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity in building homes for hardworking families.
“For this project we are looking for teams who can volunteer during June. We can accommodate groups of 25-30 volunteers. If you have a group larger than this number, we may be able to assist you with finding another organization to work with who can accommodate your additional volunteers.
“The main task to be performed with this project is painting, but there are other items that will require more skill. These items include repair to holes in plaster walls, removing old television monitors mounted in each classroom, removing old typewriter tables bolted to the floor of one classroom, and removing old heaters/radiators from walls in each classroom.

“We are also in need of someone with cabinet-making skills who can repair some old wooden cabinets in many of the classrooms and make new doors for some of the cabinets that no longer have doors.
“If any of you are already planning a mission trip to New Orleans this summer and are looking for additional projects for your group, or if you are considering a mission trip but have yet to decide on the location of that trip, please consider working with us on this project.”
